Some ideas of healthy lunches are:

  • Sandwiches
  • Cold meats
  • Vegetables
  • Wraps
  • Salads
  • Pita Pockets
  • play_heading_imgALLERGIES

Sometimes we will request that certain foods containing known allergens to a child enrolled in our service are not sent into Kindergarten.
We will inform families if this is the case.

  • play_heading_imgKINDER BAG

Each child is asked to bring a Kinder bag with them each day. Bags will be stored in lockers in the foyer. Please ensure that your child’s Kinder bag is big enough to fit their lunch box, snack box, drink bottle, any artwork and a spare change of clothes.

    play_heading_imgSUNSCREEN

Parents are asked to put sunscreen on their children prior to coming to Kindergarten each day until the 1st May and again from 1st September … and any other day you feel it is warranted e.g. on days when the UV index is high. As part of our Sun Smart policy, sunscreen is provided to children throughout the kindergarten session.

  • play_heading_imgHATS

Hats must be worn at all times outdoors (regardless of the weather) until the end of April and then again from the beginning of September. Hats must be broad-brimmed or legionnaire’s style to ensure the face, ears, and neck are protected from the sun. Baseball caps are not suitable for sun protection. These rules are strictly enforced, in line with Sun Smart guidelines.

As part of our Sun Smart policy, we supply a broad brimmed hat for all children that attend our service. The hat remains property of Seaford Kindergarten and is for your child to use throughout their enrolment with us.

  • play_heading_imgCLOTHING

Please send your child in suitable clothing. This includes clothing that is appropriate for the weather conditions, that they can manage themselves, and that will not hinder their learning experiences. Thongs and long dresses are not suitable to climb and run in. Tank-tops and shoestring dresses do not offer adequate protection from the sun.

Please name your child’s clothes so that when items are removed we know who they belong to. Whilst we provide smocks for messy activities, some children do not like to wear these and other children still get things on their clothes at times. Uniform is not compulsory, however it’s a good way to preserve your child’s own clothes! Kindergarten children sometimes have accidents and while we have a small supply of spare clothes (that must be washed and returned), we would prefer that you pack a spare change of clothes in their Kinder bags.

  • play_heading_imgDROP OFF & PICK UP

We will open the room door when we are ready for the children to come in at the beginning of the session and when we are ready to dismiss them at the end of the session. We make every effort to open the door on time.

It is important that your child is dropped off and picked up on time. If they arrive late they can miss important parts of the session. They can become distressed if you are late to pick them up, and it also impinges on the staff’s ability to complete tasks and meet personal commitments. Please phone the Kinder if you are running late so that we can explain it to your child and reassure them while we wait.

Seaford Kindergarten has adopted a Late Collection policy which will be implemented. Fees apply for the late collection of children.

  • play_heading_imgSIGN IN / OUT BOOK

Please remember to sign your child in on arrival and sign them out before entering the room to collect them at the end of the session. This book is a legal document and must be completed correctly in accordance with Department regulations.

    play_heading_imgPOCKETS

Just outside the front door you will see pockets. Each child has a named pocket and this is where we put notices, newsletters, receipts, and other important information. Please check your child’s pocket each session. The pockets are a good place to put birthday party invitations or notes for other parents.

  • play_heading_imgENROLMENT FORMS

You must ensure that enrolment forms are kept up to date, and contain at least two current emergency contacts. If at any stage your details change, please update your enrolment form immediately.

    play_heading_imgNOTICEBOARDS

There are several noticeboards around, so please take a moment to look at them regularly as they contain important information.

  • play_heading_imgSTAY AND PLAY ROSTER

It is important that your child has opportunities to share their special place with you during the year…it has a positive impact on their wellbeing when they see you taking an active interest in them and something that is special to them. The aim of being a parent helper is to spend some time with your Kinder child and assist with a few small cleaning tasks such as wiping tables, cleaning paint pots, vacuuming etc.

From term two, the parent helper roster lives with the sign in book so you can put your name down on any blank sessions when you are available! We really appreciate your help, and encourage families to sign up. Parent helpers are welcome to stay for part of or the whole session. Siblings are welcome to attend with you, but please note that parent’s are responsible for their supervision and safety.

  • play_heading_imgBIRTHDAYS

This is often a very exciting time in a child’s life! You are welcome to bring in something to help celebrate your child’s birthday, that they can share with the other children. All birthday treats will be sent home with children at the end of the session, they will not be eaten during the session. Individual cakes (i.e. cupcakes) are most appropriate, or individual lollies (such as Fredo Frogs) or lolly bags are also acceptable.

If you choose to bring in a big cake, you will need to come back before the end of the session to cut it into individual pieces and wrap them for children to take home as staff need to be with the children.

play_heading_imgABSENCE / ILLNESS / MEDICATION

ACTION PLANS ARE REQUIRED FOR:

  • Asthma
  • Anaphylaxis
  • All allergies
  • Any other medical conditions

These plans must be completed by a medical practitioner and should be discussed with your child’s teacher at the time of enrolment.

If your child is sick, or will not be at Kindergarten for any other reason, please notify us by telephone, email or Storypark prior to their scheduled session. We request that you notify the service if your child contracts a contagious disease as we are bound by policy to notify other families (confidentiality is assured as names will not be used).

EXCLUSION:

Recommended minimum exclusion periods will be observed in regard to the outbreak of any infectious disease or infestations. A poster outlining exclusion details is at the front door. Seaford Kindergarten must comply with these regulations. A note will be put in pockets when we have been notified that an infectious disease has been diagnosed in a child.

Further Details:

http://docs.health.vic.gov.au/docs/doc/Minimum-Period-of-Exclusion-from-Primary-Schools-and-Chilrens-Services-Centres-for-Infectious-Diseases-Cases-and-Contacts

If your child is unwell at Kindergarten, every effort will be made to contact you to collect them. If we cannot reach you directly we will contact your listed emergency contacts to collect your child for you.

If your child requires medication during the session you must complete a medication permission form before you leave. We are not able to administer medication without this (except in the case of asthma or an anaphylactic reaction).
